Touch Gold will be represented with runners at 3 UAE meetings over the weekend, led by Pop The Hood on Meydan’s Carnival meeting on Thursday.
Pop The Hood has made a satisfactory start to life in the UAE, though he was seeming to find 6f a little sharp against good quality sprinters and he now stretches out to 1m. A winner over 1700m in the US, he gets in off a very low weight and we’re hopeful of a good showing if he can see out the trip. Royston Ffrench takes the ride, his first for the syndicate.
We also got into new ground on Friday with First Down and Birmano becoming Touch Gold’s first runners at Al Ain! Both go in the 5f handicap on the card, the sole thoroughbred race. First Down has experienced this track before and his recent efforts at Jebel Ali will be enough to be competitive. Birmano continues to frustrate, and headgear is now reached for in a bid to spark some life out of him.
Back to Meydan on Saturday, where Speedy Move runs in the 7f handicap. A win is long overdue for Speedy, who remains in good form and he looks to have been found a nice opportunity here. He’s drawn wide which isn’t ideal, but Richie Mullen takes the ride and the blinkers have been taken off this time. Another good showing looks likely.
