Pop The Hood, by top dirt sire Street Cry, was purchased privately in the US. Despite being a 7yo at the time he came to the UAE not having a huge number of miles on the clock, with just 19 career starts, of which he had won 5. 2018 was arguably his best season over there, really catching the eye in a stakes race at Saratoga in August where he finished 4th in a small field, after an unfavourable pace setup.
A big strong type, he made a satisfactory start in the UAE, finishing fourth on his debut and then sixth in a strong looking race, both Carnival handicaps over 6f. He disappointed upped to 1m next time, an effort worth ignoring, before running fifth over 7f earlier this month.
After switching yards to Satish Seemar over the summer, Pop started the 2019/20 season very promisingly, with a pair of seconds in 6f handicaps, both times bumping into former Group winners. He then went one better himself last time, doing so most impressively and finally doing on the track what his homework had shown he was capable of.
Sadly he suffered an injury during the race which was career ending and he now resides with the re-training of racehorses programme in the UAE.
