Speedy Move was purchased for 50,000 Guineas in October 2015 at the Tattersalls Autumn HIT Sale in Newmarket, in partnership with Sean Ewing. He was immediately shipped to Dubai and on arrival we gelded him, having felt that he had not been finishing his races in the UK due to getting too buzzy. The gelding operation worked wonders and he soon settled in at Zabeel Stables. We managed to get him on the course just in time to win an end of season 6f handicap at Jebel Ali. He won in spite of severely lacking race fitness, showing a lovely attitude.
He made his 2016 seasonal reappearance in November and ran a huge race to be beaten a nose in a 6f handicap. An injury set him back a bit for the rest of the season, though his late season efforts suggested all his ability remained.
During the 2017/18 season, Speedy proved to be a really game and consistent horse, picking up cheques on 4 of his 8 starts. That included finishing fourth in handicaps at Meydan in February, firstly on turf and then back on dirt.
He again proved very competitive into the next season, finishing a very good second on his return at Meydan and consistently picking up cheques when switching between turf and dirt, before winning again back on the dirt in March. It was an emotional success for the syndicate, coming not long after the loss of Speedy’s half-brother Raven’s Corner.
Speedy proved better than ever in the 2019/20 season despite moving into the veteran stage of his career. He was placed on 4 of his first 5 starts of the season, before then winning over 6f on turf which propelled his rating past 90 and into carnival grade. He then switched back to the dirt to win again before the season ended.
Having just turned 9, Speedy again showed all his zest for racing remains when a very good fourth on his most recent start and he looks certain to remain competitive still.
