It was deeply sad to read on Sunday that Fanciful Angel suffered a freak stall accident at Palm Meadows and had to be put down.
This news was really upsetting for us all. Fanciful had been an absolute star for Touch Gold and meant so much to us. He’ll forever have a place in hearts and memories, and we also send our full condolences to his current connections, to who the suddenness of this news must come as a real shock.
Fanciful Angel was purchased for 135,000 Guineas in July 2016 at the Tattersalls July Sale in Newmarket as a 4-y-o. He was a very exciting recruit to the Touch Gold Racing team, the flagship horse for the syndicate and highest rated we’ve had in our care.
Trained by Marco Botti in Newmarket, he gave us two memorable days in the winner’s enclosure, when landing valuable handicaps at Meydan and Chelmsford. However his finest moment for Touch Gold came when he finished a remarkable second in the Arlington Million back in August, a day none of us involved will ever forget.
It was a joy to see him make such a promising start in the US, where he really seemed to be thriving, and to see him compete at the Breeders’ Cup on what proved to be his final start. Sadly we’ll never see Fanciful win the Grade 1 we all knew he had the ability to do. The big grey will be sorely missed.
Sleep well Fanciful.
